The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made both of them. Proverbs 20:12

The “seeing” eye…

The LORD is not talking about eyes that can see our empirical world around us. He is talking about eyes that can see His Spiritual Truth; eyes that observe and believe what God Is and Says and Does. Paul calls them the eyes of your heart. (Ephesians 1:18)

The “hearing” ear…

The LORD is not talking about ears that can hear sounds of the empirical world. He is talking about ears that hear His Spiritual Truth; ears that listen to and believe what God Is and Says and Does. Isaiah called them unstopped ears. (Isaiah 35:5)

The man said to me, “Son of man, see with your eyes, hear with your ears, and give attention to all that I am going to show you; for you have been brought here in order to show it to you. Declare to the house of Israel all that you see.” Ezekiel 40:4

Ezekiel is commanded to see with his eyes and to hear with his ears and to give attention to all that the Lord was going to show him. The Hebrew word for attention means heart as in mind or understanding. The phrase “to give attention” refers to the heart being devoted to understanding.

It was God’s purpose for Ezekiel to SEE, HEAR, and UNDERSTAND what God was showing him—Seeing eyes, Hearing ears, and Understanding mind. And it was God’s purpose for Ezekiel to declare to the house of Israel all that he saw!

Ask God to give you Seeing eyes, Hearing ears, and an Understanding mind…

But who has stood in the council of the Lord, that he should see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and listened? Jeremiah 23:18

Where are you to look with your Seeing eyes? What are you to listen to with your Hearing ears? What are you to intently consider in order to Understand with your heart? HIS WORD!

Now the very best way to see, hear, and understand God’s Word is through Inductive Bible Study. We offer helpful observation guides for the books of the Bible. These can be used as a stand-alone study or as a compliment to your own Bible Study.

You can enhance what the eyes of your heart have seen by placing His Word in front of your physical eyes as often as you can. One way to do this is to put His Word on your walls—in your home, office, and even on your computer as a background or screensaver. This was the purpose of God’s command to His people before they entered the land of Israel.

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:5-9

One other thing, a given, is to constantly ask God to give you those “Seeing eyes”! And when He does—use them to SEE HIM!

Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your Law. Psalm 119:18

Then Moses said to the sons of Israel, “See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge and in all craftsmanship. Exodus 35:30-31
