The first 39 books of the Bible are called the Old Testament. 12 of those books are called the Minor Prophets (because the books are small). Amos is the third of the 12.
Amos was a shepherd from Tekoa and lived in the Southern Kingdom of Israel. God called him to the Northern Kingdom of Israel to deliver a message to those who were His. Amos’s fiery message was first directed to the nations literally surrounding Israel, and then at Judah, but the Israelites did not see the ever tightening circle, like a noose, gathering around their neck. They did not realize that they, too, were the target of God’s blistering rage over their own sin.
