The last 27 books of the Bible are called the New Testament. 21 of those books are called Epistles or letters. They were written for the instruction of believers in Jesus, the Christ.
This epistle was written by Paul to Timothy, whom Paul regarded as his own son. There are problems in Ephesus, the church Timothy is pasturing, and because Paul cannot be with Timothy at that time, he instructs him through this letter. Paul sends instructions on a host of issues including godliness, the faith, true and false doctrine, roles of men and women, elders, deacons, widows, slaves, the rich, and the devil.
